People also translate
And those who expect not a meeting with us(i.e. those who deny the Day of Resurrection and the life of the Hereafter) said:"Why are not the angels sent down to us, or why do we not see our Lord?"!

And do not weaken in pursuit of the enemy. If you should be suffering- so are they suffering as you are suffering,but you expect from Allah that which they expect not. And Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.
Say,[O Muhammad], to those who have believed that they[should] forgive those who expect not the days of Allah so that He may recompense a people for what they used to earn.
And those who expect not for a Meeting with Us(i.e. those who deny the Day of Resurrection and the life of the Hereafter), say:"Why are not the angels sent down to us, or why do we not see our Lord?" Indeed they think too highly of themselves, and are scornful with great pride.
Say,[O Muhammad], to those who have believed that they[should] forgive those who expect not the days of Allah so that He may recompense a people for what they used to earn.
