Jane Greaves and colleagues observed the protoplanetary disks of 14 hot, young star systems using three different radio telescopes, being careful to isolate emission from the disks themselves, and not any incidental material.
As fusion begins in the new star, it sends out jets of gas that blow off the top and bottom of the cloud, leaving behind an orbiting ring of gas and dust called a protoplanetary disk.
The resulting effect is that the protoplanetary disk's gas rushes towards the protoplanet, the influx of the surrounding gas cannot be stopped until it is all lost.
Scientists measured the motion of gas(arrows) in a protoplanetary disk in three directions: rotating around the star, towards or away from the star, and up- or downwards in the disk..
HiCIAO Disk Gallery| NAOJ: National Astronomical Observatory of Japan-English This is a gallery of observationally imaged protoplanetary disks and debris disks taken with HiCIAO, a high contrast infrared camera developed for use with the Subaru Telescope, as part of the SEEDS Project.
One is that the ice giants were not created by core accretion butfrom instabilities within the original protoplanetary disc, and later had their atmospheres blasted away by radiation from a nearby massive OB star.[94].
In the early stages, small dust particles with a radius of about 0.1 micron circulate around the Sun(central star)together with gas in a protoplanetary disks.
