New Zealand looks forward to working with other States to reach a strong outcome in 2010 under the able chairmanship of Ambassador Macedo of Mexico.
I would also like to pay tribute to Ambassador Macedo Soares for his very imaginative contribution to trying to find a solution to the charade of the programme of work.
On behalf of the Conference on Disarmament and on my own behalf,I should like to convey to Ambassador Macedo our best wishes for success and happiness.

I would like to express my country's gratitude for Ambassador Macedo Soares' hard work and dedication in conducting consultations with all delegations and in drafting document CD/1889.
We supported the working paper submitted by the Belarus presidency, andwe are also supportive of the present proposal submitted by Ambassador Macedo Soares as document CD/1889, if that is agreeable by consensus.
I certainly thank Ambassador Macedo Soares for his comments and the very clear points that he made, and I agree with much of what he said, particularly the issue of direct implications for the credibility of the Conference on Disarmament.
Putting aside further diplomatic pleasantries, I would like to make our position clear: the Korean delegation wishes to express its willingness to accept the draft contained in document CD/1889,which was proposed by your predecessor, Ambassador Macedo Soares.
Additional resolute efforts to achieve a balanced and comprehensive programme of work were deployed by the presidency of Brazil, andI cannot but commend Ambassador Macedo Soares and his team for having conducted extensive bilateral consultations with all member States of the Conference.
I would like to very quickly mention that the concept of nuclear-weapon-free zones in densely populated areas was put into practice in Latin America with the signing, in 1967, of the Treaty of Tlatelolco,which entered into force in 1969, as Ambassador Macedo Soares reminded us just now.
My delegation therefore believes that a balanced treatment of all the issues set out in the agenda we adopted in 2009 under the presidency of our colleague from Algeria, Ambassador Jazaïry, orthat contained in document CD/1889 proposed by Ambassador Macedo Soares of Brazil during his presidency, would serve as the best foundations from which to adopt our programme of work during this first part of our 2011 session.
We are heartened that the third Biennial Meeting of States, in July 2008, laid out an action-oriented path for a more effective implementation of the Programme, andwe look forward to working with Ambassador Macedo of Mexico as the Chairman-designate of next year's Meeting of States.
