At its 271st meeting,the Committee elected Mr. Victor Camilleri(Malta) as Rapporteur, replacing Walter Balzan, former Rapporteur of the Committee, who had been assigned by his Government to another post.

Mr. Ben Mustapha(Tunisia), supported by Mr. Krokhmal(Ukraine), proposed that Mr. Ka(Senegal), Mr. Rodriguez Parrilla(Cuba), Mr. Farhâdi(Afghanistan)and Mr. Balzan(Malta) should be re-elected as Chairman, Vice-Chairmen and Rapporteur, respectively.
In 1978 he received the Brouwer Medal and in 1992 he was awarded the Balzan Prize"For his fundamental contributions to the theory of Lie groups, algebraic groups and arithmetic groups, and for his indefatigable action in favour of high quality in mathematical research and the propagation of new ideas" motivation of the Balzan General Prize Committee.
He therefore wished to propose Mr. Fall(Senegal) for re-election to the office of Chairman, Mr. Rodríguez Parrilla(Cuba) and Mr. Farhâdi(Afghanistan)for re-election to the offices of Vice-Chairmen and Mr. Balzan(Malta) for re-election to the office of Rapporteur.
The Committee had been represented at the Conference by a delegation composed of Mr. Farhâdi(Afghanistan), Vice-Chairman,Mr. Balzan(Malta), Rapporteur, Mr. Zackheos(Cyprus), Mr. Al-Kidwa(Palestine) and himself, in his capacity as Vice-Chairman and head of the delegation.
At its 250th meeting, on 3 February 2000, the Committee re-elected Ibra Deguène Ka(Senegal) as Chairman and re-elected Ravan A. G. Farhâdi(Afghanistan) and Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla(Cuba)as Vice-Chairmen and Walter Balzan(Malta) as Rapporteur.
