The purpose of this note is to assist the Commission in its consideration of the policy issues related to electronic commerce and international transport services that were examined by the experts.

The secretariat's document submitted to the Expert Meeting on Electronic Commerce and International Transport Services in September 2001 examined legaland documentary issues in more detail.
Finally, the experts expressed their opinion that reconvening the Expert Meeting on a regular basis would provide a forum in which developing countries could benefit from a dialogue on best practices in electronic commerce and international transport service.

Experts again stressed the importance of human resource development and called upon UNCTAD to develop and deliver training materials and disseminate information on the latest developments in the field of electronic commerce and international transport services.
The Expert Meeting on Electronic Commerce and International Transport Services: Best Practices for Enhancing the Competitiveness of Developing Countries was held in response to that request.
UNCTAD should keep under review and monitor developments relating to economic, commercial and legal aspects of electronic commerce and international transport services,and analyse the implications thereof for developing countries.

Volume XXVII of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law Yearbook7 was published in June 1998 and records the work of the Commission's twenty-ninth session in 1996,including electronic commerce and international commercial arbitration.
The project was presented at the UNCTAD expert meeting on Electronic Commerce and International Transport Services: Best Practices for Enhancing the Competitiveness of Developing Countries, 26-28 September 2001 in Geneva.

A total of 80 experts attended the meeting to examine the impact of electronic commerce on international transport services, focusing in particular on the economic, legal, documentary and capacity-building aspects involved.
