As to the encouragement of the teaching, study, dissemination and wider appreciation of international law, his delegation welcomed the draft resolution submitted by the Russian Federation and the Netherlands on action to be taken dedicated to the 1999 centennial of the first International Peace Conference and to the closing of the United Nations Decade of International Law and hoped that the document would produce concrete results.
Regarding human rights education in the school curriculum of the State party and the Committee's encouragement to expand these efforts beyond the school system(ibid., para. 14), human rights issues are included in the minimum curriculum for general education and are a part of the teaching of: the"History and society" subject and"Education for life in society" in primary school, the"European education" project in lower secondary school, as well as in the"Civil education" subject in upper secondary school.
Application of a policy of encouragement for prisoners taking part in the Teaching Methodology for Socialization programme: work training grants, training with leave for outside work and computation workshop, audiovisual workshop and production of a special feature film in Unit 24 of the Federal Complex for Young Adults at Marcos Paz, Buenos Aires province.
He welcomed the encouragement and support given by United Nations bodies and agencies for the teaching and dissemination of international law, particularly in developing countries.
Efforts by the United Nations to encourage peaceful methods and means for settling disputes among States,achievements made in the progressive development and codification of international law and the encouragement of its study, teaching and wider appreciation- all these demonstrate the relevance of the United Nations endeavour to fulfil the purposes of the Decade.
