The Vienna Forum to Fight Human Trafficking, which was organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime(UNODC), brought together over 1,500 government officials, business leaders, NGOs, academics, United Nations entities and other organizations, and victims of trafficking.

Initiatives that raise global awareness like the Vienna Forum to Fight Human Trafficking held in February 2008, the High Commissioner's report to the Human Rights Council, and the renewal of the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on trafficking are all important steps forward in this direction.
It sent delegations to: the Vienna Forum to Fight Human Trafficking, which was held from 13 to 15 February 2008; the Ninth Regional Meeting of Arab Experts in the Middle East and North Africa Region on Rights-Based Assistance to Victims of Trafficking, held in Cairo in December 2008; and the closing meeting held in Austria in February 2009 on the adoption of the Guidelines for the Collection of Data on Trafficking in Human Beings.
