Stressing that in the context of global financial integration, global financial flows present new challenges and opportunities for the international community and should constitute a very important element of the dialogue between the United Nations system and the Bretton Woods institutions.
The resolutions adopted by the General Assembly at its fifty-second session on such topics as poverty, micro credit,global partnership for development, global financial flows, external debt, crime prevention, refugees, racism and terrorism are strong statements on those continuing crises.
It includes an analysis of current trends in global financial flows, taking account in particular of the“Asian financial crisis” a year after it began, and recommends ways and means to address the volatility of financial flows, as requested in Assembly resolution 52/180.
Economic agents, such as international fund managers, banks and transnational entrepreneurs,predominantly determine global financial flows and trade in goods and services, which take place between(and increasingly within) firms.
