Requests the Secretary-General, through the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the Secretariat, to articulate a plan with recommendations for action andproposed activities for the coordinated and coherent implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation by the relevant United Nations bodies,the specialized agencies, regional commissions and other organizations of the United Nations system within their respective mandates, and to report thereon to the General Assembly at its sixtieth session;
Expressing its appreciation to the United Nations Secretariat, through the Inter-Agency Consultative Group, for its continued work in coordination of the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation.
Calls upon the international community to support the efforts to review progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation, including by facilitating the participation of small island developing States in review activities;
Urges the Secretary-General to ensure that the Small Island Developing States Unit of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs is sufficiently andsustainably staffed to undertake its broad range of mandated functions with a view to ensuring the full and effective implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation;
High-level review to assess progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation General Assembly resolutions 63/213 and 64/199.
Recalling the development section of the 2005 World Summit Outcome which, inter alia, recognizes the special needs and vulnerabilities of small island developing States and reaffirms the commitment to take urgent and concrete action to address those needs andvulnerabilities through the full and effective implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation.
Recalling also the decision to review progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation at the sixty-fifth session of the General Assembly.
During the biennium 2010-2011, projected extrabudgetary resources of $200,000, which are at maintenance level, will strengthen partnerships to support the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in the Pacific, andthe capacity to assess the progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation.
Reaffirms also that the review should provide the international community with an opportunity to conduct a thorough assessment of the progress made, lessons learned andconstraints encountered in the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation and to agree on what needs to be done to further address the vulnerabilities of small island developing States;
I should be grateful if the present letter were circulated as a document of the General Assembly and brought to the attention of the high-level review of the sixty-fifth session of the Assembly to assess progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation.
Reiterates the importance of ensuring sufficient and sustainable staffing of the Small Island Developing States Unit so thatit may undertake its broad range of mandated functions with a view to facilitating the full and effective implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation, and in this regard requests the Secretary-General to take the necessary actions;

In paragraph 17 of its resolution 63/213, the General Assembly reaffirmed its decision to review, at its sixty-fifth session,the progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation, and decided to convene a two-day high-level review in September 2010 as a part of that session.
In the outcome document of the High-level Review Meeting on the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States(A/65/L.2), the General Assembly had requested the Secretary-General to review shortcomings in the institutional support for small island developing States,as well as other constraints to the full and effective implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation and the Barbados Programme of Action.
Requests the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the relevant agencies of the United Nations system, including the regional commissions, to organize, facilitate or support efforts at the national, regional andinternational levels to review the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation and to assess progress made towards addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States;
Notes the recent efforts to strengthen the Small Island Developing States Unit in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and urges the Secretary-General to ensure that the Unit is sufficiently andsustainably staffed to undertake its broad range of mandated functions with a view to ensuring the full and effective implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation, within existing resources, including by redeploying resources;
By its resolution 17/2,the Commission decided that the meeting of the preparatory committee for the two-day high-level review in September 2010 to assess progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation, would be convened during the eighteenth session of the Commission on Sustainable Development.
