In order to promote the full integration of social groups involved in such activities, UNDCP has worked with the Centre for International Crime Prevention(CICP) to provide technical assistance to a number of requesting Governments in respect of rehabilitation programmes, the promotion of policies for humanizing criminal law, fostering prison reform and studying methods conducive to the integration of offenders into the community.
The activities under this heading relate to programme 25,Global social issues and policies, and programme 26, Integration of social groups, of the medium-term plan for the period 1992-1997, as revised A/47/6/Rev.1.
Activities relating to global social issues and the integration of social groups were refocused in the light of the outcome of the World Summit for Social Development and the proclamation of the International Year(and subsequently the first United Nations Decade) for the Eradication of Poverty.
The Department's policies seek to reduce inequalities, promote access to basic social services andincrease the participation and integration of social groups such as indigenous peoples in all areas of their mandates.
The revisions proposed below replace the existing narrative of programme 26, Integration of social groups, of the medium-term plan for the period 1992-1997, which was adopted by the General Assembly in its resolution 45/253 of 21 December 1990 and subsequently revised by the Assembly in its resolution 47/214 of 23 December 1992 and issued in document A/47/6/Rev.1 and Corr.1.
The activities included in the present evaluation are now part of programme 25: Global social issues and policies, andprogramme 26: Integration of social groups, and the four corresponding regional programmes for social development.
Requests the United Nations Human Settlements Programme to achieve the expected outcomes of the Global Housing Strategy, at national and local levels, by supporting requests from member States to address the current drawbacks in housing delivery through the paradigm shift of using urban planning as an entry point to housing, ensuring that housing is delivered as part of mixed urban uses,as well as achieving appropriate density, the integration of social groups and improved mobility;
As the Commission for Social Development deliberates on policies to increase the participation and integration of social groups and seek to reduce inequalities, we take this moment to reiterate the important overarching goal of the Madrid Plan.

AARP strongly urges that these deliberations on social integration pay special attention to the rapidly aging population worldwide and carefully consider intergenerational approaches when discussingpolicies which seek to: increase the participation and integration of social groups; reduce inequalities; and promote access to basic social services, education, and health care for all.
