In the demographic sphere, ECLAC, through the Latin American Demographic Centre(CELADE), has continued to cooperate with SELA through the Latin American Population Documentation System(DOCPAL) in the Network of Networks project, which is part of the activities for the"Status of regional cooperation"(PESICRE) project, assigned by the Permanent Secretariat of SELA.
The meeting approved a report entitled“ Latin America and the Caribbean: review and appraisal of the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development”,which was prepared by the Latin American Demographic Centre- Population Division of ECLAC. The report was prepared in consultation with the Latin America and the Caribbean Division of UNFPA and with substantive inputs from the ECLAC subregional headquarters for the Caribbean and related national reports.
In assisting countries, the Latin American Demographic Centre(CELADE) has offered several national and regional training activities, delivered information services in the field of population and provided technical assistance in a wide range of population-relevant fields, such as the integration of socio-demographic information into development policies and programmes, particularly in social sectors and at the decentralized level.
The activities carried out under the programme of work of the ECLAC system, which includes the secretariat of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic andSocial Planning(ILPES) and the Latin American Demographic Centre(CELADE), focused on the achievement of sustained economic growth with equity in the Latin American and Caribbean region in order to ensure the social cohesion and political stability that is the foundation of all development.
