The Basel Convention Partnership on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Wastes for the Asia-Pacific Region was officially launched in Tokyo on 25 November 2005.
Reference is also made to the Nairobi Declaration on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Waste.
Welcoming the progress made in the management of electrical and electronic waste(e-waste) through the development of  global partnerships and regional programmes of  activities.
IX/6: Nairobi Declaration on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Waste.
He spoke of  the progress made in implementing the decisions taken at the previous meeting, particularly with regard to the dumping of  hazardous wastes in Côte d'Ivoire andthe implementation of  the Nairobi Declaration on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Waste.
Basel Convention Partnership on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Wastes for the Asia-Pacific Region.
Having regard to the Basel Declaration on Environmentally Sound Management  andthe Nairobi Declaration on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Waste.
Implement the Nairobi Declaration on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Wastes adopted by Basel Convention Conference of  the Parties at its eighth meeting in order to reduce wastes.
On the positive side, she noted progress in tackling the issue of  e-wastes,notably through the Nairobi Declaration on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Waste.
Agrees to forward the proposed work plan of  the Basel Convention for the environmentally sound management of electrical and electronic wastes, as annexed to the present decision, for consideration by Conference of  the Parties at its ninth meeting;
To continue facilitating capacity-building activities and pilot projects in focal areas, subject to the availability of  funds,including activities for the environmentally sound management of electrical and electronic waste;
To promote the environmentally sound management of electrical and electronic waste, in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America, to protect the environment and human health, in particular, vulnerable groups(women and children), as well as to provide economic opportunities.
The development and implementation of  effective policy and regulatory frameworks and techniques for the safe andenvironmentally sound management of electrical and electronic waste, and for the remediation of  contaminated sites, should be encouraged;
A worldwide programme on the environmentally sound management of electrical and electronic wastes is being developed as part of  the Strategic Plan for the Implementation of  the Basel Convention to 2010, with activities starting in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America.
Encourages stakeholders, in particular industry, to join in the efforts undertaken by Parties to implement the Partnership Programme,in particular regarding the environmentally sound management of electrical and electronic equipment;
The annex to decision IX/6, on the Nairobi Declaration on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Waste, contains the workplan on the environmentally sound management of  e-waste, focusing on the needs of  developing countries and countries with economies in transition.
Mindful of  the Basel Declaration on Environmentally Sound Management,  the Ministerial Statement on Partnerships for Meeting the Global Waste Challenge andthe Nairobi Declaration on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Waste.
To promote the environmentally sound management of electrical and electronic waste(e-waste) in African, Asian and Pacific and Latin American countries to protect the environment and human health, in particular vulnerable groups(women and children), and to provide economic opportunities.
At the eighth meeting of  the Conference of  the Parties, the Basel Convention adopted the Nairobi Declaration on the environmentally sound management of electrical and electronic waste, and a related programme of  activities to tackle this new challenge hands-on.
Recognizing the work of  the Basel Convention on the Control of  Transboundary Movements of  Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal on this issue,in particular that pursuant to the Nairobi Declaration on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Waste.
It also adopted a workplan for the environmentally sound management of electrical and electronic waste(e-waste) and requested the Secretariat to continue to facilitate work and activities on the environmentally sound management of  e-waste and to report on progress to the Conference of  the Parties at its tenth meeting.
Furthermore, decision VIII/2 mandated the Open-ended Working Group,beginning at its sixth meeting, to develop a workplan on the environmentally sound management of electrical and electronic waste(ewaste) for consideration by the Conference of  the Parties at its ninth meeting.
By its decision IX/6 on the Nairobi Declaration on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Waste, the Conference of  the Parties invited parties, the Basel Convention regional centres and relevant stakeholders to continue work on the development of  pilot projects in support of  the Nairobi Declaration, in particular in developing countries and countries with economies in transition.
The establishment of  mechanisms for information exchange at the national and regional level and monitoring of  the impacts on human health andthe environment of  activities concerning or related to the management of electrical and electronic wastes will also be a priority.
The annex to decision IX/6, on the Nairobi Declaration on the Environmentally Sound Management of Electrical and Electronic Waste, provides a workplan on the environmentally sound management of electrical  and electronic waste(e-waste), focusing on the needs of  developing countries and countries with economies in transition.
It includes five main sections(sects. III-VII) corresponding to the five parts of  decision 26/3, covering issues relating to lead and cadmium; mercury; the implementation of  the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management;  waste management, including the management of electrical and electronic wastes; and final provisions.
