As you know, the representative of Egypt, Ambassador Mounir Zahran, is about to leave Geneva.

I would also like to thank your predecessor as President of the Conference, the Ambassador of Egypt, Mounir Zahran, for the work that has been done.

In accordance with article 18 of its statute, which provides that each year the Unit shall elect from among its inspectors a Chair and Vice-Chair,on 2 December 2011 the Unit re-elected M. Mounir Zahran(Egypt) as Chair and elected Istvan Posta(Hungary) as Vice-Chair for 2012.

In accordance with article 18 of its statute, which provides that each year the Unit shall elect from among its inspectors a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, on 2 December 2009 the Unit re-elected Inspector Gérard Biraud(France)and Inspector Mounir Zahran(Egypt), respectively, for 2010.

Ambassador Mounir Zahran of Egypt has asked me to inform you that he will be holding informal open-ended consultations on the improved and effective functioning of the Conference on Disarmament on Tuesday 12 August at 3 p.m. in this room.
Since none wish to do so, before adjourning this plenary meeting I would remind you that the Special Coordinatoron the improved and effective functioning of the Conference, Ambassador Mounir Zahran of Egypt, will hold open-ended informal consultations on Tuesday, 12 August at 3 p.m. in this room.
Finally, as Ambassador Mounir Zahran has officially taken leave of us, I would like to say how sad I feel to witness the departure of a great diplomat, although and especially since the positions he upholds with great skill sometimes differ from ours.
At the outset I should like to bid farewell to those colleagues who have left Geneva since the last session, namely, Ambassador André Mernier of Belgium,Ambassador Mounir Zahran of Egypt, Ambassador Aye of Myanmar and Ambassador Li Changhe of China, and wish them all possible success in their new assignments as well as happiness for them and their families.
The General Assembly, as recommended by the Fifth Committee in paragraph 7 of its report(A/57/605), appointed the following persons as members of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 2003: Mr. Homero Luis Hernández(Dominican Republic), Mr. Vladimir Kuznetsov(Russian Federation), Mr. Thomas Mazet(Germany), Ms. Susan McLurg(United States of America)and Mr. Mounir Zahran Egypt.
I should like to take this opportunity to express appreciation to Ambassador O'Sullivan of Australia, who held the consultations on this issue, and to all my predecessors,including Ambassador Mounir Zahran of Egypt and Ambassador Benjelloun-Touimi of Morocco, who have contributed greatly to the successful conclusion of this effort.
The Committee then decided, by acclamation, to recommend that the General Assembly appoint Mr. Mounir Zahran(Egypt), Mr. Homero Luis Hernandez(Dominican Republic), Mr. Thomas Mazet(Germany) and Ms. Susan McLurg(United States) as members of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 2003.
At its 19th meeting, the Committee decided, by acclamation, to recommend to the General Assembly that it appoint Homero Luis Hernandez(Dominican Republic), Thomas Mazet(Germany),Susan McLurg(United States of America) and Mounir Zahran(Egypt), as members of the Advisory Committee for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 2003 see para. 7.
Also various distinguished members of this Conference who continued that work, andhere we must single out the Ambassador of Egypt, Mounir Zahran, the then Ambassador and now Foreign Minister of Brazil, Luiz Felipe Lampreia, the Ambassador of Morocco, Benjelloun-Touimi, whose work made it possible to adopt decision CD/1356 which we are putting into effect today.
