I owe to my predecessor Ambassador Harald Kreid a debt for being such a generous source of encouragement and to SecretaryGeneral Petrovsky and Deputy SecretaryGeneral Bensmail,as well as others in the secretariat, including our interpreters, warm gratitude for their support.
I would also like to thank the hard-working andenergetic staff of the secretariat, our interpreters for their dedication and all those who contribute discreetly and efficiently to the smooth course of our  work.
Using services of our interpreters- whether simultaneous interpretation in English or simultaneous interpretation in Spanish- you will no longer worry about interpretation or technical equipment of the event, and will focus on other, more important organizational issues.
I think I know most of you quite well, and you know that I am quite enthusiastic about moving the whole process forward and enthusiastic about other events that do take place outside of the Conference on Disarmament, just as I was very enthusiastic andannounced that there would be a side event with our interpreters.
In accordance with industry standards, the system works by providing our interpreters with an isolated audio feed of the speaker's voice, before transmitting the translated speech to the audio receivers and headphones held by the listening attendees.
