In October 2010, parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity adopted the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, which establishes international rules and procedures for liability and compensation for damage to biological diversity resulting from living modified organisms.
Noting that one hundred and ninety-two States and one regional economic integration organization are parties to the Convention and that one hundred and fifty-nine States andone regional economic integration organization are parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
