The International Chernobyl Research and Information Network programme, aimed at enhancing human security in the Chernobyl-affected areas of Belarus, the Russian Federationand Ukraine, is an example of a joint United Nations initiative, from design to implementation.
The principal objectives of this event were to exchange information on women's health programmes and policies; influence the policy-making process in both countries; increase the profile of and raise awareness about key women's health issues; discuss the implementation of commitments made during the Beijing Conference; and finalize a programme of cooperation in women's health between Canada and the United States on joint initiatives in the areas of breast cancer,tobacco use, research and information networks.
Welcoming further the coordination of the activities of the International Chernobyl Research and Information Network and the Chernobyl Forum,and efforts to ensure the substantial integration of the Forum's assessment of environmental and health consequences into the Network process.

The programme of the International Chernobyl Research and Information Network is designed for the dissemination of the findings of the Chernobyl Forum on the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear accident, including practical advice on healthy and productive lifestyles to the residents of Chernobyl-affected areas in Belarus, the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
