Welcoming recent initiatives in some States to initiate a national dialogue with all stakeholders on the implementation of the right to adequate food, as exemplified by seminars held in 2002 in South Africa, Brazil, Norway, Germany, Uganda,Mali and Sierra Leone and others being planned, which can also contribute directly to the development of the international guidelines.

The Special Representative has also received complaints of discrimination against other ethnic groups in Equatorial Guinea, such as the Ndowes and the Bissios(who live along the coast of Río Muni province), the Bengas(from the islands of Corisco and Elobeyes), the Annoboneses(from the island of Annobón) and the Criollos orFernandinos descendants of immigrants from Sierra Leone and other neighbouring countries in past centuries.

Some of the results of the Commission's continued commitment and contributions can be seen in the achievements in reconciliation, reconstruction and reintegration by Burundi, the Central African Republic,Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone and other countries on the Commission's agenda, even though their levels of progress are not yet equal nor as sustained as we could wish.
In view of the subregional dimensions of the conflict, any disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programme for Liberia should be linked, to the extent possible, to the ongoing disarmament, demobilization and reintegration process in Côte d'Ivoire and benefit from lessons learned in Sierra Leone and other peace initiatives in the region that take into account the reintegration needs of internally displaced persons and war-affected communities.
