In 2001, CEB reiterated that support for Africa's development should remain a major focus for  the United Nations system and requested the High-level Committee on Programmes to maintain the issue in its agenda and keep system-wide support for  NEPAD under review.
The United Nations system continues to provide support for Africa's development.
It also participates in such important regional meetings asthe African Union summit, the NEPAD Steering Committee meeting, the Africa  Peer Review Forum, the joint African Union Commission/ECA Annual Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development  and other important, global meetings, to promote African priorities, engage important stakeholders, and advocate and mobilize increased support for Africa's development.
IV. Giving practical meaning to international support for Africa's development efforts.
As the main mechanism for  inter-agency consultation and coordination,the CEB provides oversight and policy guidance to the entities of the United Nations system in their support for Africa's development.
The United Nations has always made its support for Africa's development a priority.
The United Nations system has a major role in providing resources for  programmes of NEPAD andin maintaining international support for Africa's development.
That report, which is expected to be produced by the first quarter of 2006,will assess the progress made in international support for Africa's development in relation to the outcomes of important international summit meetings, such as those of the Group of Eight and the European Union and the sixtieth session of the General Assembly Summit in the latter part of 2005.
We thank the Secretary-General for  the comprehensive reports and his continued support for Africa's development efforts.
The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa  continued its substantive and analytical work in supporting  increased international support for Africa's development.
Increased transparency to be derived from the United Nations monitoring mechanism would also further strengthen support for Africa's development through mobilizing a strong coalition for development  results in donor countries.
Mr. Coffi(Côte d'Ivoire), speaking on behalf of the African Group,said that the Group attached the highest importance to the role of the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa  in mobilizing and coordinating support for Africa's development, as well as in fostering peace and security.
It further noted that the Initiative represented a set of concrete andcoordinated actions aimed at maximizing support for Africa's development within the framework of UN-NADAF.
The themes around which the CEB agenda was framed in the period under consideration were selected in this perspective, and included strategies for  the follow-up to the World Summit on Sustainable Development  and the International Conference on Financing for Development;  as well as curbing transnational crime; bridging the digital divide; HIV/AIDS and its linkages with food security and governance;system-wide support for Africa's development and the New Partnership for Africa's Development;  and preventing armed conflict.
We view with satisfaction the Secretary-General's proposal, introduced last March,that the new structure of the Secretariat should serve to bolster support for Africa's development, South-South cooperation and the sustainable development  of small island States.
Also addressed by CEB were financing for development  and the follow-up to the Monterrey Conference, curbing transnational crime, bridging the digital divide, HIV/AIDS andits linkages with food security and governance, system-wide support for Africa's development and the New Partnership for Africa's Development  and preventing armed conflict.
Welcomes the high priority that the United Nations System Chief Executives Board for  Coordination continues to attachto ensuring effective and coordinated United Nations system support for Africa's development and the implementation of the priorities and programmes of the New Partnership for Africa's Development; .
