After the vote on the report by Carlos Coelho.
This explains my esteem for Carlos Coelho and I fully endorse his report.
I cannot, however, support the conclusions of the rapporteur,our fellow Member, Carlos Coelho.

(PT) I would like to congratulate my friend Carlos Coelho on the excellent work he has done for this Parliament.
There are many unresolved issues in the report on the expansion of the Schengen area prepared by Carlos Coelho.
The fanfares after the adoption of the report by Carlos Coelho are absolutely unfounded.
I particularly liked the fact that Carlos Coelho clearly pointed out from the beginning that his report was about the security of children.
I will now listen with interest to the contributions from the Members andI again thank your rapporteur, Carlos Coelho, who has done an excellent job.
The meeting was to discuss the report of Carlos Coelho(S& D, Portugal) on the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area.

Carlos Coelho, MEP(EPP, Portugal), who was EP's rapporteur on the assessment of Bulgaria's and Romania's readiness to join Schengen, said that the Commission's position was fully in line with the recommendations of the European Parliament.
MEPs adopted by a large majority the reports of Carlos Coelho(EPP, PT) on the evaluation of both countries' readiness to join Schengen.
The next item is the report by Carlos Coelho, on behalf of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending the Convention implementing the Schengen Agreement and Regulation(EC) No 562/2006 as regards movement of persons with a long-stay visa- C6-0076/2009-.
(FR) Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen,I should first like to congratulate my colleague, Carlos Coelho, who has done a masterly job on this report, and goodness knows it was complicated.
I was very pleased to learn that Mr Carlos Coelho had expressed his support for this proposal from the very beginning and the rapporteur, together with the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and the Committee on Legal Affairs, has understood that action needs to be taken in order to facilitate the life of third-country nationals, because we want to encourage people legally residing in our area.
The Committee's raporteur on the case,Portugese MEP Carlos Coelho, said he has been given access to the reports, but could not make copies or even write down notes.
So I entirely support the conclusions of Carlos Coelho that we need to bring all this together, to have a consolidation of the procedures by which this evaluation is done, to consolidate the task between the first and the third pillar- and I hope that soon the phrase'third pillar' will be consigned to history and I never have to say it again- to have one simple, effective, efficient and transparent evaluation and to ensure that the transparency includes accountability to the European Parliament.
Mr President, ladies and gentlemen,firstly I wish to congratulate our rapporteur, Carlos Coelho, and the former French Presidency which, as expected, is not with us, for bringing about an agreement at first reading.

(MT) I would also like to congratulate my fellow Member, Carlos Coelho, for his report on this initiative which is granting third-country citizens the possibility of greater freedom of movement within the European free zone.
Therefore, when it comes to these reports, I agree with my colleague Carlos Coelho, in that they are meant to enhance the evaluation mechanism within the Schengen Area project; a project which is of great importance, and which is built upon mutual trust.
