Article 12.-The distinctive emblem.
Such persons shall carry a special identity card bearing the distinctive emblem.
To have a fixed distinctive emblem recognizable at a distance;
ProtocolIII(2005) relating to the Adoption of an Additional Distinctive Emblem.

This Article does not authorize any wider use of the distinctive emblem in peacetime than is prescribed in Article 44 of the First Convention.

This Protocol recognizes an additional distinctive emblem in addition to, and for the same purposes as, the distinctive emblems of the Geneva Conventions.
Exceptionally, in the special cases covered in that Chapter,medical transports may use distinctive signals without displaying the distinctive emblem.

Each Party to the conflict shall also endeavour to adopt and to implement methods and procedures which will make it possible to recognize medical units andtransports which use the distinctive emblem and distinctive signals.
During an armed conflict, the use of the distinctive emblem in any other cases than those mentioned in the preceding paragraphs of the present Article, and the use for any purpose whatever of a sign resembling the distinctive emblem, shall be forbidden.
