Lazar German was imprisoned in Serres and died there either in 1838 or in 1839.
There are several versions for the detention of Lazar German.

The notable people of the town headed by Dyado Lazko(Lazar German), who at that time was mayor of the town gathered and decided to build a church in the very heart of Bansko.
Around 1850 was founded Bansko Bulgarian Municipality- organization of the local Bulgarian government, this followed the formationin 1833 of the village community council, headed by Lazar German for providing funds, materials and labour for the construction and painting of the church"Holy Trinity" built in 1835.
And that could have been a reality if it was not the last foreseeing move of the unique Bansko resident Lazar German, who, knowing the Turkish temper insured himself by ordering the builders to carve at the entrance of the church besides the Christian cross also the Turkish half-moon.

Having accumulated a good enough fortune,in 1832 Lazar Todorov German stopped traveling around Europe alone, settled in Bansko and shortly after became mayor of the city.
