I would like to congratulate the rapporteur on her work and say that I welcome her report on the impact of extensive urbanisation in Spain on individual rights of European citizens, on the environment and on the application of EU law; this impact has been particularly negative,as testified by the numerous petitions received from residents in the area.
Expresses its concern, on the basis of hundreds of petitions received yearly, at the shortcomings in the actual implementation, both in letter and spirit, in Member States of the provisions of EU environmental legislation, such as the Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment directives;
Considers that the introduction of national legislation undermining the investment climate on renewables not only constitutes in some cases an attack on legal security,as outlined in some of the petitions received but may also be considered a breach of the Charter where those responsible fail to transpose or implement legislation relating to the Union's energy and climate strategy;
Whereas all the petitions received by EU citizens, gathering tens of thousands of signatures of EU citizens, have a clearly critical position towards the TTIP negotiation and warn about the threat that such an agreement would pose to the European way of life, especially in the social, economic, environmental and democratic fields;
