To help achieve its 2020 and longer term climate and energy objectives,the EU launched two large funding programmes in 2009 to support carbon capture and storage(CCS) and innovative renewables: the European Energy Programme for Recovery(EEPR) and the NER300 programme.
The main financial instrument is the European Energy Programme for Recovery(EEPR) which provides financing for projects, largely in the form of grants and subsidies.
The use of surplus funds to support projects relating to energy efficiency andrenewable energy in the European Energy Programme for Recovery(EEPR) is therefore laudable, especially against a backdrop of financial crisis.
