Appellate courts(4) Established for the territory of a number of higher courts. .
Criminal lawyers represent defendants facing criminal charges in state,federal and appellate courts.
Note that other federal appellate courts have less stringent definitions of“substantially equal.”.
The Courts in Brcko District of Bosnia andHerzegovina shall be the Basic and Appellate Courts.
The appellate courts are immediately superior to the higher courts and the basic courts. .
The court grants permission to between 40 and 75 litigants each year to appeal decisions rendered by provincial,territorial and federal appellate courts.

Activities on harmonization of court practice continued with the conclusion of an amended agreement among appellate courts in cooperation with the Supreme Court of Cassation.
Judges in a variety of federal district and appellate courts and state appellate and supreme courts have hired UCI Law students to serve as their post-graduate law clerks.
Pursuant to provisions of the Military Law, the courts at that time were organized as the courts of first instance at battalion commands and as courts of second instance,i.e. appellate courts at main military headquarters.

Organizational structure of the courtsOrganizational structure of the courtsThe Supreme Court of Cassation is the highest court inthe Republic of Serbia, immediately superior to the Commercial Appellate Court, the Misdemeanor Appellate Court, the Administrative Court and the appellate courts.
Proceeding in accordance with the National Strategy for the Judicial System Reform it is necessary to set up a new judicial and prosecutorial network which is to include also misdemeanour courts, as well as appellate courts in Belgrade, Kragujevac, Nis and Novi Sad and the Administrative Court for the whole territory of Serbia.
These arguments are confirmed by the fact that appellate courts reduced number of old cases by 25%, the Administrative Court by 52.38%, the Commercial Appellate Court by 78.75%(cases pending for more than 10 years from filing an initial act) and by 81.77%(cases pending for more than five years from filing an initial act) while there are no cases older than two years.
This activity is carried out under the auspices of the Case-law Harmonization Activity Plan which the SCC adopted in April 2014,as well as of the Agreement of the Presidents of Appellate Courts' Presidents on the Organization, Venue and 17 Timing of Joint Appellate Courts' Sessions, which was concluded on the initiative and under supervision of the SCC.
The SCC, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, prepared electronic forms for generating decisions,for higher and appellate courts, in AVP and SAPS, in which the Republic of Serbia- the Ministry of Defense withdrew appeals, i.e. recognized the claims for damages submitted by reservists, in order to free the judges from making classical individual decisions and being able to devote their time to more complex cases.
She pointed out that the purpose of strategic litigation is to ensure the proper interpretation or application of anti-discrimination regulations and, hence, to clarify the meaning of a particular regulation through court practice, or to show with this practice that a particular regulation needs to be amended, modified or improved.This event was attended by judges from all four appellate courts- from Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Niš, and judge of the Supreme Court of Cassation Lidija Đukić.
In June 2015, supported by the CoE Belgrade Office and MDTF-JSS, the SCC organized the first workshop forjudicial assistants 97 and advisors of case-law departments in state level and appellate courts, which aim to strengthen capacities of these departments regarding respective laws and bylaws(which refer to the work of these departments), and different skills(communication, case management, reporting).
The Financial Investigations Strategy prescribes specialization in economic crime matters in police,public prosecutors' offices and four appellate courts, advanced trainings in cooperation with the Judicial Academy of judicial officers(in four Appellate courts) who handle financial investigations, establishment of task forces comprised of police officers and officers of other relevant government authorities, appointment of liaison officers for contact with the public prosecutor's office and the police in every authority which comes across facts connected to financial crimes.

The institutional framework encompass: Constitutional Court, the High Judicial Council, the State Prosecutorial Council, Ministry of Justice, Judicial Academy,Supreme Court of Cassation, four appellate courts, 25 higher courts, 66 basic courts with 25 court units, Misdemeanor court of appeal with three departments, 44 misdemeanor courts, Commercial Court of Appeal, 16commercial courts, Administrative Court with three departments, the Republic Public Prosecutor's Office, four appellate public prosecutors' offices, 25 higher public prosecutors' offices, 58 basic public prosecutors' offices.
