The Dunajec(Polish pronunciation:[duˈnajɛt͡s]) is a river running through northeastern Slovakia and southern Poland.

The main city is Nowy Targ on the Dunajec below in the valley of Podhale,[3] with large recreational villages including Krościenko nad Dunajcem, Szczawa and Ochotnica.[2][4].
It starts at Jaworki, as the confluence of the Biała Woda and Czarna Woda streams.[1] The river flows through Jaworki, Szlachtowa,and flows into the Dunajec in Szczawnica, just before the characteristic Kotuńka Rock, at an elevation of 430 metres.
The line of the river Dunajec and that of the San, both in West Galicia, marked the two successive stages in the break-through battle which initiated the Austro-German offensive of 1915 on the eastern front.

The Dunajec River Gorge(Polish: Przełom Dunajca; Slovak: Prielom Dunajca; German: Dohnst-Schlucht) runs through the Pieniny Mountains in the south of Poland and the north of Slovakia(as Dunajec is the border river between the two countries in the area).

On the north bank of the Dunajec the land rises abruptly into the Gorce Mountains, on the south bank it slopes much gentler further south until it reaches the foothills of the Tatra Mountains some 6 to 8 kilometres further to the south near Białka Tatrzańska.
The observation deck hangs over a 500 metres(1,600 ft) precipice,with a near perfect view of the Dunajec river gorge and the vast area of the Pieniny National Park, the Tatra Mountains, Beskid Sądecki, Gorce Mountains and Beskid Żywiecki.
Facilities close to the town centre include: the border crossing with Slovakia(2 km distance), the Pieniny hotel, the tourist apartment complex"Pod Taborem", Exhibition Hall,and the boat station for the raft ride down Dunajec River Gorge to Szczawnica resort town.
The lake was built in the interwar period to regulate the Dunajec river flowing through the foothills of Beskid Mountains; and also, to provide electricity for the Rożnow Power Plant(Elektrownia Rożnow) built into the dam.

The Gorce Mountains(Polish: Gorce[ɡɔrˈt͡sɛ]) are part of the Western Beskids mountain range spreading across southernmost Poland.[1] They are situated in Małopolska Province, at the western tip of thelong Carpathian range extending east beyond the Dunajec River for some 1,500 kilometres(930 mi).
It has a basin area of 6,796 square kilometres(4,838 in Poland, and 1,958 in Slovakia).[1] On the Slovak/Polish border, it flows through the Zamagurie region,with attractions such as the Dunajec River Gorge, the Trzy Korony massif with a 500 metres(1,600 ft) precipice, Červený Kláštor, and two Pieniny castles in Czorsztyn and Niedzica.
The approximate time to the top is 2 hours; 1:45 min back The blue trail from Czorsztyn leads through the mountain passes of Przełęcz Osice, Macelak, Przełęcz Trzy Kopce, and Przełęcz Szopka toward Siodło The red and blue trails from Sromowce Wyżne-the rafting station on the Dunajec in Kąty village- lead to Przełęcz Trzy Kopce(c. 45 min), where they join in with the blue trail leading up from Czorsztyn.
