Temporary reintroduction of border control at internal borders.
Where border control at internal borders has already been reintroduced for six months, the Commission shall issue an opinion.
Correct application of these measures makes it possible to maintain an area without border control at internal borders.

In its Communication on migration5 the Commission suggested the possibility of the introduction of a mechanism allowing for a decision at the European level defining which Member States would exceptionally reintroduce border control at internal borders and for how long.
Where appropriate, the consultation shall include joint meetings between the Member State planning to reintroduce border control at internal borders, the other Member States, especially those directly affected by such measures and the relevant Agencies.
(b) carry out inspection visits, with the support of experts from Member States and of Frontex, Europol and any other relevant European body, in order to obtain orverify information relevant for a decision to temporarily reintroduce border control at internal borders.
Finally, in regard to the fact that the Schengen Borders Code allows the temporary reintroduction of border control at internal borders, the Commission insists on timely notification of any planned reintroduction of internal border controls. .
This regulation is intended to improve the legislative part of the integrated border management European Union policy by setting out the rules on the border control of persons crossing EU external borders andon the temporary reintroduction of border control at internal borders.
The Commission shall inform the public on a decision to reintroduce border control at internal borders and indicate in particular the start and end date of such a measure, unless there are overriding security reasons for not doing so.".
Under other business, the committee was informed about the latest discussions on the Schengen Governance proposals, i.e. the proposal concerning the evaluation and monitoring mechanism, andthe proposal for amending the Schengen Borders Code regarding the reintroduction of border control at internal borders.
(b) whether measures other than the temporary reintroduction of border control at internal borders, such as enhanced cross-border police cooperation or intensified police checks, are likely to sufficiently remedy the threat to public policy or internal security;
Such classification shall not preclude access to information, through appropriate and secure police cooperation channels,by the other Member States affected by the temporary reintroduction of border control at internal borders and shall not preclude information from being made available by the Commission to the European Parliament.
