The establishment of a single market integrating biomedical engineering with the medical and care services industry, in combination with ICT and systematic approaches to health informatics, including the acquisition, management, and use of information in health, and telemedicine, will have tremendous advantages for the European Union and greatly enhance the quality and efficiency of medical care for all.
Whereas in order to contribute towards the establishment of a single market for preserved milk, to lay down conditions of production which take account of consumer requirements and to facilitate trade relations on the basis of fair competition, common rules must be adopted governing composition, use of reserved descriptions, manufacturing specification and labelling of the products concerned;
(73) the establishment of a single market would be jeopardised by the granting of certain aids; the provisions of the Treaty which allow the assessment of aids granted by Member States and the prohibition of those which are incompatible with the common market should therefore apply in the common market organisation for wine; the provisions on premiums for the permanent abandonment of wine-growing should not of themselves preclude the granting of national aid for the same ends;
Particularly essential is the establishment of a single energy market, which should be in a position to encourage European competitiveness by reducing energy prices and dependence on foreign sources.
Mr President, the European Union's greatest achievement is the establishment of the Single Market.
Prior to the establishment of the single market, each EU Member State imposed obligations on business in the interests of safety, health and consumer protection.
I am pleased that on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Single Market, we have before us a resolution which will help Europeans make full use of the Single Market's potential.
