In that perspective, I commend the commitment of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS and the African Union,especially concerning the technical cooperation and coordination of efforts it has managed to establish among its member States.
In its resolution 1997/34,the Economic and Social Council welcomed the report of the Secretary-General on technical cooperation and coordination of activities(E/CN.15/1997/17) setting forth the information provided by Member States on their efforts to observeand implement in full General Assembly resolution 51/60; and requested the Secretary-General to seek information from Member States on the implementation of the Declaration, using a questionnaire or other means.
While appreciating UNIDO's partnerships with major players in the development arena, he urged it to enter into partnerships with countries and other subregional, regional and international organizations to support technical cooperation and coordination activities already existing in the region,and for more general maximization of resources and expertise.

In that field, I should like to emphasize the effort of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries in the area of technical cooperation and coordination of efforts among its members-- of particular benefit to the African member States that have the least resources but are the most affected.
