At the same time, I should liketo thank the Director of the United Nations Centre for Disarmament Affairs, Mr. Davinic, and Mr. Lin, the Secretary of the Commission, for their very helpful support.
Mr. DAVINIC(Provisional Secretary-General of the Conference) pointed out that rule 1 of the draft rules of procedure referred to the 1995 Conference as the 1995 Review and Extension Conference of the Parties to the Treaty.
I should also like to express my appreciation to the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Mr. Marrack Goulding, for his valuable contribution, and to the Acting Directorof the Centre for Disarmament Affairs, Mr. Prvoslav Davinic.

I am sure that members of the Commission will also join me in sincerely thanking theDirector of the Centre for Disarmament Affairs, Mr. Davinic, who is currently on mission and who has written expressing his regret at not being able to join us today.
Mr. Davinic(Director of the Centre for Disarmament Affairs): I have asked to speak in order to draw the attention of delegations to new procedures for making contributions to the various trust funds for disarmament activities of the Secretariat.
At its second session, the Committee was informed that, in response to that request, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, following consultations with the members of the Preparatory Committee,had nominated Mr. Prvoslav Davinic, Centre for Disarmament Affairs, as provisional Secretary-General of the Conference.
Mr. Davinic(Director, Centre for Disarmament Affairs): The representative of Sri Lanka is absolutely right: there are no financial implications for the regular budget of the United Nations in connection with the Review Conference on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
My thanks also go to the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Mr. Marrack Goulding, for his valuable input to the Committee ' s work and to thankthe Director of the Centre for Disarmament Affairs, Mr. Prvoslav Davinic, who so brilliantly directs the Secretariat staff serving our Committee.

In response to the request made by the Preparatory Committee at its first session, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, following consultations with the members of the Preparatory Committee,has decided to nominate Mr. Prvoslav Davinic, Centre for Disarmament Affairs, as provisional Secretary-General of the Conference.
Mr. Prvoslav Davinic, Director of the Office for Disarmament Affairs, Department of Political Affairs, represented the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Ms. Silvana F. da Silva, Chief, Arms Register, Data Collection and Monitoring Branch of the Office for Disarmament Affairs, served as Secretary of the Committee.
On behalf of the Commission, I would like to express my gratitude to the staff of the Centre for Disarmament Affairsfor their valuable assistance, particularly to the Director of the Centre, Mr. Prvoslav Davinic, the Secretary of the Disarmament Commission, Ms. Cheryl Stoute and their colleagues who served as the Secretaries of the three Working Groups.

Mr. Davinic(Director of the Centre for Disarmament Affairs): In connection with draft resolution A/C.1/50/L.17/Rev.2, entitled“Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons”, I would like to address the Committee in my former capacity as Secretary-General of the 1995 Review and Extension Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons(NPT).
At its second session, the Committee was informed that, in response to that request, the Secretary-General of the United Nations,following consultations with the members of the Preparatory Committee, had nominated Mr. Prvoslav Davinic, Centre for Disarmament Affairs, as provisional Secretary-General of the Conference. The Committee took note of that nomination.
At the outset, allow me to extend a warm welcome to the Director of the Centre for Disarmament Affairs,Mr. Davinic, who will be following our proceedings during his mission to Geneva. His presence among us, at this important juncture in our collective striving for the finalization of the comprehensive test-ban treaty, is yet another demonstration of the importance attached by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to its successful and early realization.
On behalf of the Commission, I should also like to express thanks to the staff of the Centre for Disarmament Affairs for the valuable assistance, particularly to the Director of the Centre for DisarmamentAffairs, Mr. Prvoslav Davinic, and the Secretary of the Disarmament Commission, Mr. Lin Kuo-Chung, as well as their colleagues serving as secretaries of the three Working Groups.
It is gratifying to know that I can also count on the most valuable experience, competence and profound knowledge of the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Mr. Marrack Goulding; to the Director of the Centre for Disarmament Affairs,Mr. Prvoslav Davinic; and to the Secretary of the First Committee, Mr. Sohrab Kheradi, who has each year so ably cooperated with the Chair and the other officers of the Committee and contributed to the successful completion of the work of the Committee.
