Four areas are specifically covered by the Division:(a) Optimizing the business cycle, which includes the whole value chain from purchasing of inputs to the delivery of products/services, with a focus on supply and value chain management training and implementation, export packaging and marketing, as well as standards andquality management;(b) Managing the enterprise, which addresses needs assessment, export strategy design and corporate marketing.
The programme is an integrated response of ITC, UNCTAD and WTO, in collaboration with interested donors,to building human, institutional, policy and export strategy capacities in African countries to better understand and manage their participation in the multilateral trading system.
The Division of Policy and Programme will also undertake in-depthstudies on specific trade-related issues as inputs to the export strategy business line, integrated country and regional programmes and private sector-oriented development strategy exercises such as the Diagnostic Trade Integration Study; and it will build sustainable market research capacity through training and coaching programmes delivered either as part of integrated country and regional projects or as part of the Centre ' s overall e-learning programme;
Results of the change process to date include identifying the core values of ITC, organizational restructuring,and redefining organizational core competencies along five business lines(exporter competitiveness, export strategy, business in trade policy, trade support institutional strengthening, and trade intelligence).
In paragraph 13.9 of the budget document, the Secretary-General indicates that, as a result of the change management process,ITC has refocused its activities around the following five core business lines:(i) export strategy;(ii) business and trade policy;(iii) strengthening of trade support institutions;(iv) trade intelligence; and(v) exporter competitiveness.
On the Arab-international front, Jordan and the United States ratified a new bilateral free trade agreement in 2000, which provides Jordanian manufacturers with tariff-free access into the US market.The alliance complements Jordanian aggressive new export strategy manifested by the establishment of several Qualifying Industrial Zones(QIZs) since 1998 and engagement in new trade and economic agreements.
