Option 2: Increased support to EU legal obligations such as the Modernised Customs Code MCC.
The modernised Customs Code, which will review the Community customs legislation, is foreseen for adoption in 2008.
The impact assessment identified option 3"Increased support to EU legal obligations such as the Modernised Customs Code(MCC)" as the preferred option.
This Modernised Customs Code is actually a very good document, on balance, but it could have been very much better as well.
Earlier in this legislative period, we adopted a modernised customs code and instruments to help create an effective and paperless customs. .
The Modernised Customs Code, as the Commissioner has heard me say before, is an amazingly boring but ever so important piece of law from the Commission.
This will add to the benefits expected from the Modernised Customs Code and e-Customs in terms of reduction of administrative burden for transport.
Electronic trade and customs have already become a necessity for an efficient European market,even prior to the introduction of the modernised customs code.
