EUR-Lex(3)- formerly Celex- is an online repository of published EU legislation.
The same survey revealed that there were 2 478 subscriptions for13 of the 16 CD-ROM titles derived from the CELEX base compared with 1 885 in 1996.
These figures are taken from Celex, the publicly accessible interinstitutional database.

The European Information Association has awarded CELEX the first place of its 1997 Award for European Information Sources in the electronic sources category.

The Publications Office is preparing a merged site containingthe three bases currently providing access to Community law and the Official Journal- EUR-Lex, CELEX, and Eudor.
CELEX, the database containing the complete body of EU law in force, such as union legislation, caselaw, preparatory acts, parliamentary questions and national provisions which implement directives is now available on CDROM.

In the field of electronic publications the Office basicallycontinued to market the existing databases, i.e. TED, Celex, SCAD, the statistical bases Cronos, Comext and Regio, and the Sesame base, to which special measures were devoted.
The announced measures focused on CELEX and EUR-Lex(and products derived from these such as the Directory of Legislation in Force), for which the Commission considered that there was a need to improve precision, accessibility and user-friendliness.
This analysis showed that on 21 April 1993,in the legislation section of CELEX(Sectors 1, 2, 3 and 4), 15 974 documentary units per language were listed as acts in force on 1 January 1993 apart from acts concerning food aid, for which the full text had not been loaded.
Because of its exhaustive coverage, CELEX is the core of this integrated service, which also comprises EUDOR(electronic archives of official European Union documents)'3, EUR-Lex(access to the Official Journal)'4' and the part the Court of Justice's CURIA'5'database containing the most recent judgments.
