With this 23rd issue of Inforegio Panorama we believe the European Commission demonstrates that regions are indeed at the heart of the Union's new Integrated Maritime Policy.
Recalling the three keywords- attractiveness, knowledge, employment-proposed by the Commission to relaunch the Lisbon strategy(see Inforegio News No 131), Commission President José Manuel Barroso stressed in his welcoming address the important contribution that cohesion policy can make:‘Local and regional elected representatives have a better understanding of the link between cohesion- economic, social, territorial- and competitiveness.

In general, it will be important,once they are approved by the Council(see Inforegio News No 137), for the priorities defined in the Community strategic guidelines for 2007-13 to be reflected in the next generation of operational programmes for cohesion policy, in order to ensure that this policy is fully aligned with‘Lisbon.
