Nutrinova is one of the world's largest producers of potassium sorbate and sorbic acid.
It was discovered accidentallyin 1967 by German chemist Karl Clauss at Hoechst AG now Nutrinova.

By letter to the hearing officer dated 22January 2003, Hoechst requested that it and Nutrinova should, through their counsel, have access to the internal documents relating to the telephone conversations between Commission officials and Chisso between September 1998 and the end of April 1999.
