Past, present andfuture of the special nature reserve"Jerma".

By the Jerma River in the village of Vlasi, the Institute has implemented three eco-educational workshops.
The second research with the same method was carried out in July 2008 on nine selected locations in the Jerma Basin.

Based on the assessment of natural values, SNR"Jerma" is classified as category I(first)- protected area of exceptional international and national importance.

SNR"Jerma" covers the territories of the municipalities of Babušnica, Dimitrovgrad and Pirot, at an area of 6.994,5 ha.
The Municipality representatives have expressed their willingness to support the organization of the exhibition, as well as all other initiatives to conserve andpromote the values of Jerma area.

The basic morphometric data of the chosen river sites for the Golijska Moravica River and the Jerma River are presented in the tables 1. and 2., and their location in the basins on the figures 2. and 3.
SNR"Jerma" is located in southeastern Serbia. It includes the massifs of Greben and Vlaška mountain and the major part of the river Jerma basin.
Poganovo Monastery is located 25km southeast of Pirot, at the very entrance to the wild, picturesque and tranquil Jerma River Canyon, between the Odorovac and Vlach streams, one of the most impressive scenery in Serbia.

For the purpose of easier identification in the future RHS database-the abbreviation"MOR" is added next to the number of river sites which represents all the spot-checks inthe Golijska Moravica Basin, and the abbreviation"JER" for all the spot-checks in the Jerma Basin.
ContactResults of the project"Monitoring of complex karst research in SNR Jerma"On the basis of the preliminary results of the monitoring of complex karst research in the Special Nature Reserve"Jerma" carried out in November of 2017, it can be concluded that the area of the Jerma River Gorge is almost completely speleologically unexplored.
Beside the experts of the Ministry(Vedran Verleković and Marijana Vidaković) and the Institute(Sava Simić and Predrag Lazarević), the meeting was also attended by the representatives of the Municipality of Negotin, PE"Srbijašume" andLocal self-government unit"Vratna".A public hearing on the protection of Special Nature Reserve"Jerma" was held on December 26th 2013 in Pirot.
Adventure Outdoor Festival Jerma", organized by the Association"Adventurist Network" from Pirot, was held for the second time in the period August 14 to 18th, 2019 in the Special Nature Reserve"Jerma". During the festival, 100 adventurers from Serbia, Macedonia and Croatia gathered to explore the natural and cultural values of the Jerma River Canyon.
The following phases of the project involve locating them and conducting multidisciplinary research.Research was carried out in cooperation with the PE"Srbijašume" which is the Manager of the Special Nature Reserve"Jerma", Forest Management Unit"Pirot" from Pirot, and was financed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection. The project"Monitoring of complex karst research in SNR Jerma" was initiated in 2016 and conducted for the first time in the area of the Special Nature Reserve"Jerma" in the following year.
Special Nature Reserve"Jerma" is entrusted to the management of PE"Srbijašume". Nature Monument"Promuklica" geographically belongs to the southwestern Serbia and is located within the Dinara mountain range, in the ravines of river Vidrenjak, in the municipality of Tutin. Promuklica is an intermittent source and one of the rare phenomena of its kind in this part of Serbia.
The results of this phase represent the basis for planning and continuing research and other activities in the next phases. Special Nature Reserve"Jerma" is located in southeastern Serbia, on the territory of the Municipalities of Dimitrovgrad, Babušnica and Pirot and includes most of the catchment area of the river Jerma and parts of the mountain massifs of Greben, Turka and Vlaška planina.
SNR" Jerma" is internationally Important Plant Areas( IPA), a Prime Butterfly Area( PBA), a part of the Ecological network, Emerald area and an Important Bird Area( IBA). Regarding the necessary human resources and logistics for the management of this area, PE" Srbijašume" was proposed to be the manager of the protected area. The Study on protection was presented by Bratislav Grubač, associate of the Institute.

ContactThe designation of SNR"Jerma" and NM"Promuklica"The Government of the Republic of Serbia at its session on September 13th adopted the Decrees on the designation of two more protected areas, Special Nature Reserve"Jerma" and Nature Monument"Promuklica". Based on the Institute's Studies on protection, as a professional documentary basis for the protection, and the conducted designation process, the Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted the Act on the Protection of these two areas.
