Dynamics 365 now includes a real-time, in-memory BI solution that provides up-to-the-minute information around how your business is performing, with new tools(Power BI) for visualizing this data and creating dashboards.
In this two-article series, Bilal Siddiqui teaches how to use Scalable Vector Graphics(SVG)with the open source D3 JavaScript library to create data visualizations.
So by visualizing data, you are able to more effectively ask and answer important questions such as“Where are sales growing,”“What is driving growth” and“What are the characteristics of my customers using different services?”.
We have written before about ways to visualize data so won't go into too much detail here- suffice to say that data visualization are intended to be more than mere eye candy- they should serve a specific purpose and convey specific facts in a more effective way than the basic tabular format.
Pivot tables aren't the most beautiful or intuitive ways to visualize data, but they are useful when you want to quickly extract key figures while seeing exact numbers(rather than get a sense of trends), especially if you don't have access to a self-service BI tool that can automate this for you.
The other entries we recognised were a mixture of bringing data tolife in a personal way(AKQA's Nike Your Year), visualising data in imaginative ways(Grey's Berlin Wall of Sound), and mining data to produce great insights(Added Value External Radar and The Futures Company for Ford).
