On 24 June 2011, the Chamber, composed of Judges Sekule, presiding, Ramaroson and Bossa,delivered judgement in the Butare case.
Only the Butare case, concerning six persons, remains before the Appeals Chamber.
One of the judges in this Chamber did not have his mandate extended for the purpose of enabling him to continue sitting on the Butare Case.
The Butare case is the largest of the joint trials conducted by the Tribunal thus far.
Allowing Judge Bossa to continue to serve in the Butare case until its completion will definitely assist in achieving that objective.
In the Butare Case, 51 prosecution witnesses have testified, out of a maximum figure of 59 prosecution witnesses.

Except for the Butare case, which is not expected to be completed until August 2015, all remaining appeals are expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
On completion of trials in the latter two cases, Trial Chamber II will concentrate solely on the trial in the Butare case and not commence with other trials for the duration of this trial.
This trial, usually referred to as the Butare case, is the largest multi-accused case before the Tribunal and has progressed to an advanced stage.
Thanks to the tireless work and dedication of the staff and judges, all projected remaining appeal judgements, except for the Butare case, were delivered during the reporting period.
Judicial records relating to the Butare case were separated for transfer following the appeal judgement, while all other records were transferred or were scheduled for transfer.
The trial in the case of six accused, Pauline Nyiramasuhuko, Arsène Shalom Ntahobali, Sylvain Nsabimana, Alphonse Nteziryayo, Joseph Kanyabashi andElie Ndayambaje(Butare case), resumed in July 2007.
Since May 2014, for instance, the six-accused appeal in the Butare case has generated approximately 35 defence and prosecution filings on a range of substantive legal and procedural issues.
One of these cases, the Butare case, has six accused persons as defendants, including the first woman to be indicted by an international criminal tribunal and the first to go on trial in the Tribunal for Rwanda.
Four of these trials are multi-accused cases andvery voluminous: the Butare case(six accused), the Government case(four accused), the Military II case(four accused) and the Karemera et al. case three accused.

In parallel with this case, Judge Bossa sat on the bench in the Butare case and currently also sits on the Ngirabatware bench, Judge Rajohnson also sits on the Ngirabatware bench, and Judge Tuzmukhamedov was a member of the bench in Ndahimana.
Moreover, in order to continue to work towards advancing completion of the Butare case, the Presiding Judge held a status conference in May 2013 aimed at streamlining the consideration of several motions in order to facilitate more efficient disposal of voluminous pre-appeal work.
