Military Cooperation, Capabilities and Doctrine Service.

Building on the work of the current Civil-Military Coordination Liaison Officer in theOffice of Military Affairs, it is proposed that a Military Cooperation, Capabilities and Doctrine Service be established to improve United Nations military policiesand doctrine, develop capabilities for United Nations peacekeeping missions and enhance activities involving military cooperation.
Eight new positions are requested for the Military Cooperation, Capabilities and Doctrine Service, as follows.

In recognition of the increased workload of the Service, 2 posts, of Military Policy and Doctrine Officer and Capability Development Officer, were approved in the period 2007/08, and an additional 18 posts in the Office of the Military Adviser were approved in the period 2008/09.
The priorities of the Office of Military Affairs are: reviewing and revising, where necessary, the military planning documents for all peacekeeping operations; assessing potential threats to military operations; supporting, monitoring and guiding all military components of peacekeeping operations;developing the relevant military policy and doctrine documents; and maximizing military capability and its timely deployment to peacekeeping operations.
The Committee recommends approval of two posts(P-4), of the eight requested,to address military policies and doctrine, develop capabilities for peacekeeping missionsand enhance activities involving military cooperation.
Redeployment of 2 posts(1 P4 Capability Development Officer and 1 P4 Military Policy and Doctrine Officer) to the Office of the Military Adviser, Policy and Doctrine Team.
