The Committee considered the guidance on the development of inventories for the first time at its ninth meeting, on 8 and 9 November 2012, on the basis of the note by the Secretariat on the issue(UNEP/CHW/CC.9/8), including the annex to that note setting out an October 2012 draft methodological guide for hazardous waste inventories. .
Other needs cover access to and development of solar and wind energy(KIR, MUS), sensitization of stakeholders to the use of more efficient and cleaner production systems(LBN,MUS), and development of inventories of renewable energy sources UZB.
To provide comments on the draft methodological guide on the development of inventories, the draft guidance on the implementation of the Basel Convention illegal traffic takeback provision, the revised draft guide to the control system and the updated version of the manual for the implementation of the Convention;
The Secretariat is contributing both funding and expertise to the work package on planning for the management of hazardous materials andwastes by facilitating the development of inventories of hazardous wastes in Chittagong, the current location for ship recycling in Bangladesh.

Participants reported on major ongoing and planned actions in their countries since the last Working Group meeting in September 2009, regarding the modernization andupgrading of national monitoring networks; development of inventories of air emissions, wastewater discharges and waste; expanding monitoring of biodiversity; improvement of data handling; enhancement of institutional mechanisms for data sharing and exchange; publication of environmental assessments; and reporting to Multilateral Environmental Agreements MEAs.
The report of the Committee was supported by draft terms of reference for cooperative arrangements on preventing and combating illegal traffic(UNEP/CHW.11/10/Add.1), as well as two information documents setting three guidance documents under the Convention, namely, draft guidance on the take-back provision,preliminary draft guidance on the development of inventories and a draft revised guide to the control system(UNEP/CHW.11/INF/18); and the classification of compliance performance on national reporting and comments received thereon UNEP/CHW.11/INF/14.
