Some delegations expressed the view that,in the light of the information provided in the conference room paper on the financial and other implications of webcasting the sessions of the Subcommittee, it was not feasible from a legal, budgetary and practical standpoint to introduce webcasting of the sessions of the Subcommittee at the present time.
Noting with appreciation the work done by the Secretariat, especially in providing, at the request of the Coordinator of the Informal Working Group,information on the standard costs as well as financial and other implications of options or proposals considered by the Informal Working Group.
The Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions has considered the report of the Secretary-General on the financial and other implications resulting from the introduction of a staff retention bonus at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwandaand the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia A/61/522.
To that end, it adopted decision 1996/112, in which, expressing its conviction that the time devoted to formal meetings could be reduced if the meetings were rescheduled to take place over a longer period, thereby allowing both for in-depth study of the documentation and informal consultations,it decided to request the Secretary-General to examine the financial and other implications of organizing the Sub-Commission sessions according to other alternatives outlined in the decision.
