Instruments of acceptance in respect of an amendment shall be deposited with the Depositary.
The Government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas accepted the amendments to article 8 of the Convention,depositing its instruments of acceptance on 31 March 1994.
It is expected that instruments of acceptance will be presented to the United Nations in September or October 2006.
She outlined that, on the basis of the current number of Partiesto the Kyoto Protocol(192), the Doha Amendment requires 144 instruments of acceptance in order to enter into force.
The Depositary must receive instruments of acceptance from three fourths of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol by 3 October 2012.
Based on the number of Parties to the Kyoto Protocol as at 25 February 2009,138 Parties would need to deposit instruments of acceptance for any such amendments to enter into force.

She noted that,as at 12 November 2013, the Depositary had received instruments of acceptance of the Doha Amendment, from Barbados, Mauritius and United Arab Emirates.
Only two more instruments of acceptance were needed for entry into force of the amendment to article 43, paragraph 2, of the Convention raising membership of the Committee from 10 to 18.
Accordingly, Canada hoped that other States parties would soon deposit their instruments of acceptance of the amendment to increase membership of the Committee to 18.
In other words, those amendments would become effective for the Parties that had accepted them on the ninetieth day following the date on which 20 out of 29 Parties had deposited their instruments of acceptance with the Depositary.
Upon entry into force of the protocol,those States parties that had not deposited instruments of acceptance with the Secretary-General would remain bound by the provisions of the Covenant in its original form.
It also indicated that it had not undertaken any action to promote or encourage the implementation of the Code of Conduct and the Compliance Agreement,although some NASCO Contracting Parties had deposited instruments of acceptance of the Agreement.
She also called on States to deposit their instruments of acceptance of the amendment to article 20 of the Convention on the Elimination against All Forms of Discrimination against Women, as Egypt had done on 2 August 2001.

Upon entry into force,those States parties that had not deposited instruments of acceptance with the Secretary-General would remain bound by the provisions of the Covenant in its original form and by any earlier amendment which they have accepted.
Calls upon States and other entities referred to in article 10, paragraph 1,of the Compliance Agreement7 that have not deposited instruments of acceptance of the Compliance Agreement to do so as a matter of priority;

She also noted thattwo other Parties had, since the last meeting of the Group, adopted instruments of acceptance regarding the amendment to the Convention contained in Conference of the Parties decision III/1 and that one other Party had advised the Secretariat that it had recently submitted instruments of ratification of the amendment to the Depositary.

Furthermore, the representative stated that the European Union and its member States will also submit information required byparagraph 9 of decision 1/CMP.8 and will deposit instruments of acceptance at the same time, as was the case for the Kyoto Protocol itself, to ensure its simultaneous entry into force for the European Union, its 27 member States, Croatia and Iceland.
