Section 5.1 dealt with reservations in relation to succession of States.

The topic of nationality in relation to succession of States was of great relevance to his country which, together with the Czech Republic, had quite recently undergone a process of State succession, following the dissolution of the former Czech and Slovak Federal Republic.
The Commission is also of the view that, in principle, the attribution of nationality should not be subject to any fee,since the attribution of nationality in relation to succession of States occurs on a large scale and the process is not analogous to that of naturalization.
Mr. Mikulka(Special Rapporteur on nationality in relation to succession of States) said he was pleased to report that several Governments had submitted their written comments on the draft articles on nationality of natural persons in relation to the succession of States before the deadline of the end of October 1998.
