Cases of intimidation,persecution or reprisal against relatives of missing persons, witnesses to disappearances or their families, members of organizations of relatives and other nongovernmental organizations, human rights defenders or individuals concerned with disappearances are transmitted to the pertinent Governments, with the appeal that they take steps to protect all the fundamental rights of the persons affected.
The Working Group also takes"prompt intervention" actions in connection with acts of intimidation,persecution or reprisal against relatives of missing persons and private individuals or groups who seek to discover the fate or whereabouts of disappeared persons, to uncover the causes of disappearances, or to claim redress.
The Group considered that cases affecting relatives of missing persons, witnesses to disappearances and their families, members of relatives' organizations as well as other non-governmental organizations and its members persecuted or threatened as a reprisal for their activities on behalf of victims of disappearances or for their efforts to eliminate such practice, should be given priority attention by the Working Group, in accordance with the terms of resolution 1990/76.
The Working Group regularly transmits to the Governments concerned a summary of allegations received from relatives of missing persons and non-governmental organizations with regard to obstacles encountered in the implementation of the Declaration in their respective countries, inviting them to comment thereon if they so wish.
