The Act does not affect the rights and duties of parents and children.
Number 2 states:"In exercising parental authority, guardians have the rights and duties of parents.

Given the above stated facts, it may be concluded that the Civil Code of the Republic of Lithuania, which regulates legal family relations in detail- such as property and personal non-property relations between the spouses, the rights and duties of parents and children, issues of guardianship, trusteeship and adoption- does not provide for any discrimination on the grounds of gender.
Article 5 of the Convention states that States parties shall respect the responsibilities, rights and duties of parents, legal guardians, or members of the extended family or community as provided for by local custom, to give direction and guidance to the child in her or his exercise of the rights recognized in the Convention.

The right and duty of parents is to bring up their children to be honest individualsand loyal citizens, as well as to support them until they come of age.
