Nephi taught his people from the writings of Isaiah 2 Ne.
Solutions: Teach your children the doctrine of agency as taught in 2 Nephi 2:27.
Nephi read many things written in the books of Moses, 1 Ne.
I don't find many examples of Laman andLemuel sitting quietly while being taught by either Lehi or Nephi.
The brass plates Nephi took from Laban contained the books of Moses 1 Ne.
Another philosophy that will limit us is illustrated by this maxim:“Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die”(2 Nephi 28:7).
Nephi anticipated some of the objections latter-day readers may have against the Book of Mormon.
He“witnesses of the Father and the Son”(2 Nephi 31:18) and reveals and teaches“the truth of all things”(Moroni 10:5).
Nephi said they observed“the commandments of the Lord in all things, according to the law of Moses”(2 Nephi 5:10).
After the first 19 or so years, Laman and Lemuel and their descendants and followers(!)turned dark skinned because of their disobedience(2 Nephi 5:21).
Nephi 2:6-9 speaks of an Arabian river named Laman that flows continually into the Red Sea!
He says,“I did frankly forgive them all that they had done, andI did exhort them that they would pray unto the Lord their God for forgiveness”(1 Nephi 7:21).
Nephi also used past records- those of his father- when composing the beginning of his own account(1 Nephi 1:17).
However, many of us are also familiar with the scripture in 2 Nephi 4:35, which says,"Yea, I know that God will give liberally to him that asketh.
Nephi 11 corresponds to 1 Nephi 3 in the 1830 Book of Mormon, which has different chapter divisions than current editions, and no verse divisions.
For the people it describes(pre-Columbian Hebrew immigrants to the Americas, called“Nephites”) are said to have had temples andto have observed“all things according to the law of Moses”(2 Nephi 5:10; 25:24).
First Nephi 3:7 affirms that God gives no commandments to the“children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.”.
Jesus taught,“He that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another”(3 Nephi 11:29).
Yet 19 years later the people had so prospered and multiplied in the Promised Land that they built a temple of which the“manner of construction was like unto the temple of Solomon:and the workmanship thereof was exceeding fine”(2 Nephi 5:16)- see chapter 3 for further details.
The Book of Mormon teaches:“For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is bygrace we are saved after all we can do”(2 Nephi 25:23).
And my Father sent me that I might be lifted up upon the cross… that I might draw all men unto me, that as I have been lifted up by men even so should men be lifted up by the Father, to stand before me, to be judged of their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil”(3 Nephi 27:13- 14).
Some descriptions of God make Him sound abstract and unapproachable, or angry and vengeful, but we learn in the Book of Mormon that“God is mindful of every people”(Alma 26:37) and that like the Book of Mormon prophet Lehi,we can be“encircled about eternally in the arms of his love”(2 Nephi 1:15).
There He reported that"my Father sent me that I might be lifted up upon the cross; and after that I had been lifted up upon the cross, that I might draw all men unto me, that as I have been lifted up by men even so should men be lifted up by the Father, to stand before me,to be judged of their works."(3 Nephi 27:14).
