The Strategy calls for effective knowledge-sharing systems to be in place for supporting both policymakers and end-users in the implementation of the Convention.
Decision 3/COP.8, annex, sets out the 10-year strategic plan and framework to enhance the implementation of the Convention(The Strategy) which gives the CST the primary responsibility for fulfilling its operational objective 3 which, among several outcomes, includes the improvementof knowledge, and in particular of effective knowledge-sharing systems.
The Strategy calls for effective knowledge-sharing systems to be in place for supporting both policymakers and end-users in the implementation of the Convention.
The 10-year strategic plan and framework to enhance the implementation of the Convention(The Strategy) states, as one of its expected outcomes under operational objective 3 concerning science, technology and knowledge,the following:" Effective knowledge-sharing systems, including traditional knowledge, are in place at the global, regional, subregional and national levels to support policymakers and end users, including through the identification and sharing of best practices and success stories".
The Strategy calls for effective knowledge-sharing systems to be in place for supporting both policymakers and end-users in the implementation of the Convention.
For example, outcome 2.1 calls for an assessment of policy, institutional, financial and socio-economic drivers of desertification/land degradation and barriers to sustainable land management, and for measures to remove these barriers;and outcome 3.5 concerns the establishment of effective knowledge-sharing systems at the global, regional, subregional and national levels to support policymakers and end-users, including through the identification and sharing of best practices and success stories.
They called for the creation of effective knowledge-sharing systems, including traditional knowledge, and identification and sharing of best practices and success stories.
The CST is leading work towards achieving this objective and seeks to, among other tasks,promote and/or create effective knowledge-sharing systems to support policymakers and end users by, inter alia, identifying and sharing best practices and success stories.

According to the proposals contained in document ICCD/CRIC(8)/5, the new reporting format will contain a section on best practices, success stories and lessons learned-since these are considered an integral part of an effective knowledge-sharing system to support both policymakers and end-users in the implementation of the Convention.
Enabling the collection of best practices and success stories(relevant to all reporting entities) The identification and extraction of best practices andsuccess stories from reports is a key element in building up an effective knowledge-sharing system, as requested by the Convention and The Strategy.
As for EA 3.5.1,the secretariat has started working on the implementation of an effective knowledge-sharing system by developing a comprehensive knowledge management system with a specific component of a scientific knowledge brokering management system. .
Building of effective partnerships with other United Nations system agencies and bilateral partners through joint activities, continuous dialogue, mobilization of support and knowledge-sharing with ECA member States.
Building upon the findings and conclusions of the Unit ' s note" Corporate sponsoring in the United Nations system: principles and guidelines", the report will pave the way for identifying best practices, lessons learned and challenges ahead, and for recommending system-wide monitoring, reporting,evaluation and coordination procedures or mechanisms based on successful experiences and knowledge-sharing within the United Nations system to ensure effective management, transparency and accountability in the establishment of partnerships.
