The Electronic Data-Processing Section is responsible for planning, systems analysis, design, programming and implementation of office automation throughout MONUC.
In view of the increased use of electronic data-processing equipment in the mission area, there is a need for18 additional local level posts in the two electronic data-processing sections.
Electronic Data-Processing Section. The Section will be responsible for planning, systems analysis, design, programming and implementation of office automation throughout UNMIK.
The staffing requirements provide for a total of 123 posts(36 international and 87 local),including 3 additional local staff posts(two in the Electronic data-processing Section and one in the Force Construction Engineer's Office).
Two new local level posts in the Electronic Data-Processing Section are required to enable the Mission to fully implement its electronic data-processing requirements.
The staff of this Section will be increased by the redeployment of one General Service(Other level)post from the Electronic Data-Processing Section and the addition of 24 posts(four P-3, 15 Field Service and five Local level).
The mission is supported by 120 civilian personnel assigned to eight sections/offices: Office of the Force Commander, Personnel and Travel Section, Finance Section, Communications Section, General Services Section, Procurement Section, Transport Section and Electronic Data-Processing Section.
Lastly, one General Service(Other level)post is being redeployed from the Electronic Data-Processing Section for a supply assistant, who will be responsible for the control, receipt, issuance of all consumable medical supplies and ensuring proper recording thereof.
The staffing requirements of the Force provide for a total of 125 posts(38 international and 87 local), including 2 additional posts(1 P-3 Budget Officer post in Administrative Services and1 General Service post in the Electronic Data-Processing Section), described in paragraphs 27 and 28 of the budget document.
Specific duties include: coordinating and planning, management, systems analysis, design, programming and implementation of special electronic data-processing projects; evaluating industry trends and advising the Chief of the Electronic Data-Processing Section on the advantages, disadvantages and cost-effectiveness of implementing related new technologies, programs and systems; liaison with United Nations Headquarters, other field missions, manufacturers, the technical support unit and vendors on issues relating to electronic data-processing material management; providing periodic reports on the status of electronic data-processing special projects.
The proposed changes to the organizational structure of UNOMSIL reflect the expansion of the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, the establishment of a Civil Affairs Office and the reorganization of the formerCommunications/Electronic Data-processing Section into the Communications Section and Electronic Data-processing Section.
Changes to the Section include the redeployment of 42 posts from the Logistic Operations Support Section, the redeployment of one General Service(Other level)post from the Electronic Data-Processing Section, the reclassification of one post from P-4 to P-5 and 15 new posts(three P-3, four Field Service and eight Local level).
The proposed changes in staffing requirements would include a total of 19 net post reductions, 1 in the office of the Chief, 2 in the Buildings Management and Engineering Section, 7 in the SupplySection, 5 in the Air Operations Section, 1 in the Electronic Data-Processing Section and 3 in the Communications Unit.
(h) General Service. The increase of one post for the secretary of the Deputy Head of Mission, two secretarial posts in the Office of Political Affairs, one post in the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer andone post in the Electronic Data-Processing Section, offset by the conversion of one post in Finance, two posts in Personnel and three in General Services to the Local level for a net decrease of one General Service post;
The Mission is supported by 238 civilian personnel assigned to the following sections/offices: Office of the Force Commander, Chief Administrative Officer ' s Office, Personnel Section, Finance Section, Transport Section, General Services Section, Communications Section, Electronic Data-Processing Section, Procurement Section and Engineering Support Services Section. .
The Electronics Services Section consists of two units: the Electronic Data-Processing Unit and the Communications Unit.
