In its resolution 53/115, the General Assembly took note of the active participation of youth organizations and youth during its twentieth special session and stressed the importance of their continuing to contribute their experiences and to participate in the decision-making processes,in particular in relation to the elaboration of the action plan for the implementation of the Declaration on the Guiding Principles of Drug Demand Reduction.

In its resolution 64/182, the General Assembly urged allMember States to implement the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Declaration on the Guiding Principles of Drug Demand Reduction and to strengthen their national efforts to counter the abuseof illicit drugs in their populations, in particular among children and young people.

In its resolution 53/115, the General Assembly requested the Commission to examine, at its forty-second session,the proposal for an action plan for the implementation of the Declaration on the Guiding Principles of Drug Demand Reduction(Assembly resolution S-20/3, annex), taking into account the international agreements and declarations in the area of demand reduction that had been elaborated, in particular the Global Programme of Action, and addressing all policies and programmes to all sectors of society.
