Using space science and technology, the Islamic Republic of Iran aims towards the following achievements.
(ii) Increased number of countries receiving support in using space science and technology and their applications.
(b) Strengthened capacities of countries in using space science and technology and their applications in areas related, in particular, to sustainable development, and mechanisms to coordinate their space-related policy matters and space activities.

Cuba continued to make modest progress in using space science and technology for, inter alia, the improvement of weather forecasting, the application of remote sensing to the mapping of vegetation cover and the prevention of fires, the study of space sciences and teaching.
Mr. Semenenko(Ukraine) said that one of the positive current trends was that an increasing number of countries, including developing countries,were using space science and technology on a broader scale to improve the standard of living of their people.

The Committee noted with satisfaction the large number of outreach activities carried out at the regionallevel for building capacity through education and training in using space science and technology applications for sustainable development.
(b)(i) Increased number of countries that have received assistance in using space science and technology and their applications to support national sustainable development programmes and activities.
In addition to the publications referred to in table 6.3, the Office will produce a number of public outreach materials, such as posters, pamphlets and brochures,to promote the work of the Committee and the benefits of using space science and technology and their applications.
UNISPACE III recognized the benefits of using space science and technology and their applications to promote various aspects of sustainable development.
As reflected in expected accomplishment(c) of the present report, the programme will continue to increase coherence and synergy in the space-related work of entities of the United Nations system and international space-related entities in using space science and technology and their applications as tools to advance human development and increase overall capacity development.
(b) Strengthened capacity of countries in using space science and technology and related applications, including global navigation satellite systems, particularly in areas related to sustainable development.
Starting in 2003, as follow-up to that recommendation, the symposiums held in Graz, Austria,have been dedicated to promoting the benefits of using space science and technology and their applications to carry out the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation.
(b) Strengthened capacities of countries in using space science and technology and their applications, including Global Navigation Satellite Systems, in areas related, in particular, to sustainable development.
(c) Increased coherence and synergy in the space-related work of entities of the United Nations system and international space-related entities in using space science and technology and their applications as tools to advance human development and increase overall capacity development.

In order to ensure continuous monitoring and assessment of sustainable development objectives at all levels, it was essential to enhance national capabilities,strengthen the institutional framework for using space science and technology for development, and enhance international cooperation to facilitate the collection, processing and exchange of space-derived data and information.
Recognize that the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, assisted by the Office for Outer Space Affairs of the Secretariat, has for the past fifty years served as a unique platform at the global level for international cooperation in space activities and that the Committee and its subsidiary bodies stand at the forefront in bringing the world together in using space science and technology to preserve the Earthand the space environment and ensure the future of human civilization;
The courses offered by the Centrewould strengthen the capacity of the countries of the region to use space science and technology for their own development.
Initiatives taken by United Nations bodies and specialized agencies to use space science and technology for sustainable development.
Delegations expressed their support for the programme, in particular the criticalrole it played in helping developing countries to use space science and technology for economic, social and scientific development,and highlighted the need to strengthen the programme.
Call upon all States to take measures at the national, regional,interregional and global levels to engage in the common efforts to use space science and technology and their applications to preserve planet Earthand its space environment for future generations.
