On behalf of the ALDE Group.-(FI)Mr President, right from the outset, I wish to thank our committee's excellent Chair, Doris Pack, who also drafted this report.
Doris Pack and others did not do so, but a large majority did.
As a university teacher I can only endorse, year after year, what Doris Pack has described in general terms and has rightly highlighted as positive, as well as what she has rightly criticised.

As I see it, the crucial issue in this country is that unfortunately-and here I would echo what Doris Pack has said- the nationalists often still seem to be setting the agenda.

Finally, I am very happy to see Parliament's enthusiasm- and, inparticular, that of my good friend Doris Pack- for the European capitals of culture and Sarajevo's interest in holding the title.
The key to moving Bosnia-Herzegovina closer to Europe lies in Sarajevo, but needs the full support of all entities",the European Parliament's Rapporteur and expert on the Balkans, Doris Pack(D).
I would like to say that I see the report of Doris Pack, and the numerous initiatives that have been mentioned here, as a complement or an addition to what the Commission itself suggested.

On September 16 the European Parliament adopted a resolution condemning the offences committed against minorities in the Serbian province of Vojvodina and, as a consequence of this, in late 2004,a delegation led by Mrs Doris Pack visited the province on a fact-finding mission.

Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, here in Strasbourg last Wednesday we had the chance to talk to representatives of the various parties in the elected national parliament of Bosnia-Herzegovina for the first time in our Delegation for South-East Europe,led by our most energetic chairman Doris Pack.

Doris Pack, Chair of the Committee on Culture and Education in the European Parliament, supported the cause of FEECA at a“parliamentary breakfast” to celebrate the birthday of the federation and emphasised that she always had to use the power of persuasion in her political work in Brussels to even raise awareness of adult education in many countries, for example during discussions about the organisation of the EU educational programmes.
Certainly the budget of the Socrates programme has been substantially increased thanks to the tenacity andefficiency of our colleague, Doris Pack, whom we should once again congratulate on her activities, but there is now a real demand for the education and youth programmes, to which it would be a pity not to respond.
On 9 May 2011, theChairwoman of the CULT Committee of the European Parliament, Ms Doris Pack, sent a letter to the Hungarian Presidency confirming that should the Council adopt as its position at first reading the text approved by the Coreper(subject to legal-linguistic verification), she would recommend to the CULT Committee and then to the Parliament as a whole in plenary session, that the Council's position be accepted without amendment at Parliament's second reading.
I welcome the Commission's efforts to integrate and simplify European educational programmes andwould like to draw your attention to the amendments submitted by our rapporteur Doris Pack, which not only underline the necessity to ensure the continuity of life-long learning, but also the need for an increase in funding for European programmes, including Erasmus.
